South African Tourism Board Appoints New Interim Board Chair and Members
The South African Tourism Board (SAT) announced the appointment of a new interim board chair and member: Tim Harris, the former head of Wesgro.
In an interview, Harris stated that the new board are trying to get a handle on the state of SAT. He added that the mission kicking off this weekend at the African Travel Indaba in Durban is to bring stability and help give the staff the space to build proper collaborations with the industry to get the word out about South Africa as a leading tourist destination on the African continent. Harris further explained that the core message of SAT is to take South Africa’s position as the leading destination on the African continent and part of the emerging African tourism growth story to the world. The product that SAT has to work with is unparalleled, certainly on the continent, and possibly even globally, in terms of the breadth of experience and the quality of attractions and experiences South Africa offers.
The SAT quoted: ”South Africa is a must-see destination – they need to spend as long as possible and see as much of the country as possible. Then we’ll start to see tourism play the role it can and kick-start growth and job creation in South Africa.”
If this is achieved, tourism can play the role it can and kick-start growth and job creation in South Africa.
